VTSSM Inducts the 2023 Hall of Fame Class at the K-1 Lodge

A who’s who of Vermont skiing and snowboarding gathered at the K-1 Lodge on October 14, 2023 to induct the latest class of legends into the Vermont Ski and Snowboard Museum (VTSSM) Hall of Fame. The event honors athletes, pioneers and special contributors of Vermont skiing and snowboarding who’ve made major impacts to the sports of skiing or riding in Vermont.

“This Hall of Fame was our largest and most successful Hall of Fame in 20 years, in terms of attendees and fundraising,” says VTSSM Executive Director Abby Blackburn. “It was sold out with 250 guests. Not only was it a night to celebrate this year’s inductees and award recipients but it ended up being a reunion for many people, some folks seeing old friends for the first time in 30 years.”

The 2023 class of inductees included Howard Buxton, a leader in U.S. Biathlon, Professional Skier and Sugarbush fixture John Egan, Okemo Mountain owners Diane and Tim Muller, and snowboard pioneer and Green Mountain Series founder Suzi Rueck. David Goodman was presented with the Paul Robbins Journalism award for his contributions to the ski media and Tara Gerahty-Moats was given the First Tracks Award, which honors a young Vermonter contributing to and enriching skiing or snowboarding in Vermont and/or beyond.

After a meet and greet and cocktail hour, the crowd was treated to a series of short documentaries about each inductee before the awards were handed out. The entire evening was rife with positivity and a great way to celebrate the huge contributions to the ski and snowboard industry that have been made in Vermont. VTSSM selected Killington Resort as the host for this year’s event due to its central location in Vermont and the ideal venue that is the new K-1 lodge.

“We’ve been attending the World Cup for the past two years and watched the renovation of K-1 Lodge in real time,” Blackburn says. “Last November I knew it had the potential to be a fantastic venue. The Killington staff took such good care of us, the venue was beautiful, and the food was amazing. I hope to have many more Hall of Fame ceremonies there!”

The Museum’s mission is to collect, preserve, and celebrate the rich history of skiing and snowboarding in Vermont. The Hall of Fame is its signature event directly aligned with that mission. Hall of Fame nominations are accepted year-round – those requirements can be found here.
