GROOMING AND APPEARENCE

Killington Resort & Pico Mountain strives to maintain a workplace environment that functions well and is free from unnecessary distractions and annoyances. As part of that effort, the company requires employees to maintain a neat and clean appearance that is appropriate for the workplace setting and for the work being performed.

Supervisors should communicate any department-specific workplace attire and grooming guidelines to staff members during new-hire orientation and evaluation periods. Any questions about the department’s guidelines for attire should be discussed with the employee’s immediate supervisor. Any staff member who does not meet the attire or grooming standards may be subject to corrective action and may be asked to leave the premises to change clothing.

Killington Resort & Pico Mountain does not discriminate based on religious beliefs. If a religious belief conflicts with an individual’s ability to conform to any provision of this policy, that individual should apply for an exemption to that provision through the Human Resources Department and Killington Resort & Pico Mountain will use its best efforts to accommodate the request.

Local Housing Options

Housing is very limited and often quite expensive in the Killington/Rutland area, so you should start looking for housing as soon as possible. The Bus (free with staff ID) services the Mendon/Rutland Area, which makes it viable for living while you work at Killington, even if you don’t have a car. We recommend the following resources for finding alternative housing in the area:

The Killington Ambassador Program

The Killington Ambassadors are a fantastic group of volunteers here at the resort. They’re the first friendly faces to greet incoming guests in the morning and the last to wish them a good night. The Killington Ambassador Program is made up of around 200 individuals from all different backgrounds. Every ambassador has an undeniable passion for the mountain. They’re outgoing, fun-loving, and sociable. They’re people-people; they like to chat with guests on the chairlifts and around the base lodges. They love spreading joy and lending a hand in any way they can.

Scheduling

Shifts last from 8:15 a.m. until approximately 4:45 p.m. on weekdays and 7:15 a.m. until approximately 4:45 p.m. on weekends/holidays. During that time, ambassadors will be assigned about two hours of greeting at one of the base lodges or in a parking lot. The rest of their time is spent skiing around their designated areas of the mountain, assisting ski patrol, answering guests’ questions, and giving directions.

Specifics

Ambassadors volunteer a minimum of:

  • 21 weekend/holiday shifts, OR
  • 23 weekday shifts, OR
  • 22 shifts of a mix of weekdays/weekends/holidays

Please note:

  • There is an annual meeting in late October/early November that does not count towards this minimum.
  • First year ambassadors will complete two days of shadow training in addition to the minimum listed above.

Perks

Being an ambassador comes with many perks beyond spending time on the mountain. They include and are not limited to: a season pass for you and your eligible dependents, food & beverage discounts, retail discounts and complimentary/discounted tickets to give away to friends & family. But by far the best part of being a Killington Ambassador is joining an established community of like-minded individuals passionate about the resort and brightening our guests’ days. As much as ambassadors love our guests, they also love to be with each other.
