Killington Resort Wraps Up First Season Under New Independent Ownership
KILLINGTON, Vt. (May 15, 2025) – Vermont's Killington Resort, the largest ski and snowboard resort in Eastern North America, concluded the 2024/25 winter season on Saturday, May 10th after 174 days of skiing and riding, the longest season in the East. A total of $10,000, including proceeds from the final day of skiing and riding and an additional donation from the resort, was donated to Whaleback Mountain in support of its new chairlift project.
This season was notable as it was the first under the new ownership of the Killington Independence Group, a group of local investors who have pledged to reinvest all profits into the resort. Earlier this season, we announced $30 million in capital improvements and that number has now increased to $36.5 million with additional investments in maintenance, equipment, snowmaking pipeline, replacing the surface lift at Snowshed, and more. We were also able to give our staff, both seasonal and full-time, a bonus for their hard work thanks to our successful season.
“It’s great to be independent and I am so proud that our new ownership is sticking to their word and reinvesting in the resort,” says Killington President and CEO Mike Solimano. “It’s been a pleasure working with them and I am excited for the future to see what we can achieve together.”
Earlier this season, our $7 million investment in new, low-energy snow guns enabled our snowmaking team to return to trails that hadn’t seen snowmaking in years, including the legendary Devil’s Fiddle and Vertigo Headwall—all while using less air and less water than previous seasons. With our spring efforts focused in the Canyon, we piled snow on Double Dipper and East Fall in order to achieve the longest season in the East.
We also were proud to host another fantastic Audi FIS Ski World Cup race, with record-breaking crowds eager to witness skiing history as Mikaela Shiffrin vied for her 100th win. While she didn’t break the record here, we were thrilled to celebrate her victory when she accomplished the feat in Italy a few months later. Speaking of 100, the 100 Day Club turned 13 and 301 people made the club. We also brought back the legendary kparks brand for our signature terrain parks and were awarded with honor for NSAA’s Best Collision Prevention Program.
Mother Nature also delivered for us, with consistent cold temperatures and 253” of snow—the highest total since the 2010/11 season. Thanks to great conditions, visitation was strong as people come from far and wide to enjoy The Beast.
This summer, we will look to complete numerous improvements including the replacement of the Superstar Quad with a high-speed six-passenger chairlift and all-new cabins and barn for the Skyeship Gondola. Plus, we’re installing 500 additional HKD low energy snow guns, a new magic carpet on Bonanza at Pico and the start of a new mountain bike trail on Ramshead.
