KILLINGTON, Vt. (October 15, 2026) – Vermont’s Killington Resort, the largest ski and snowboard destination in Eastern North America, announced plans for an additional $15 million worth of capital improvements, bringing the resort's three-year investment total under independent ownership to over $80 million. Additionally, the resort announced its intention to invest approximately $200 million throughout the next decade towards further large-scale infrastructure projects.

$1.3 million was allocated this past summer towards lift maintenance, as seven lifts across Killington Resort & Pico Mountain received notable upgrades including rebuilt towers and new sheave trains. Future lift maintenance projects include the installation of a new control system in the K-1 Gondola, which will require the lift to be closed for a majority of summer 2027. Though the new control system will ultimately lengthen the life of the lift, investments like these do come with the cost of temporarily closing some operations. Additional details about summer 2027 operations will be shared in the coming months. In total, $10 million has been committed towards upgrades to existing lifts in the next ten years, with a focus on decreasing lift downtime at both resorts.

Further long-term projects include a redesign of Killington's on-mountain trail signs and trail maps, focused on simplifying guest navigation. New signage has been installed this summer on Snowdon Mountain, with six additional phases to follow in the coming years. In conjunction with Green Mountain Power, a new underground power line from the K-1 Base Area to the top of the North Ridge Quad is due to be installed during summer 2027, improving power and communications reliability for several key upper mountain lifts and our Peak Lodge.

At Pico Mountain, a second covered carpet lift is currently being installed in the learning area at Bonanza, while the entrance to the existing carpet lift at Bonanza will be regraded to provide an easier loading experience. This newest lift is tailored to first-time skiers and riders and travels a shorter distance uphill, similar to the previous Bonanza Rope Tow. Including the Learn To Carpet at Killington Resort, which will be receiving a cover ahead of winter 2026/27, all four surface lifts at Killington & Pico are now covered, the result of a $2 million investment towards improving the beginner experience.

Also at Pico Mountain, a new rope tow will soon be installed on That A Way which, along with five additional snowmaking hydrants that were added to the trail, will help provide lift access to the Outpost area during winter 2026/27. During summer 2027, a new, fixed-grip quad chairlift manufactured by Doppelmayr is set to be installed to replace the previous Outpost Double. This $3.8 million investment will maintain the same uphill capacity as the Outpost Double due to increased chair spacing. The new Outpost Quad, set to debut during Pico's 90th anniversary in winter 2027/28, is the same model of lift as the new Snowdon Quad at Killington, providing operational consistency across both resorts.

Two previously announced projects have come across permitting delays and will now open at later dates. An indoor sports simulator complex, currently under construction adjacent to Killington Sports at Route 4, is slated to open later this winter at a date to be announced. The new Needle's Eye Lodge, which, upon completion, will have a four times larger footprint than the existing Jerk Jamaican Mountain Grill, is now slated to open during winter 2028/29. The initial phase of construction is due to begin in April 2027, and service at the Jerk Jamaican Mountain Grill is not expected to be affected during the next two winters.

Over 80% of the resort's $80 million in current investments have been committed towards guest-facing improvements of lifts, facilities, and snowmaking infrastructure. Additional investments in vehicles, grooming equipment, technology, and other projects account for the remaining total.

Killington Resort's ten- to fifteen-year capital expenditure plan includes construction of a new snowmaking pumphouse at Snowshed, the resort's primary pumphouse. Further proposals include the construction of new lifts at Snowshed and Ramshead as well as new lodges at Snowshed and Bear Mountain. More details about these upcoming ventures will be shared when they are finalized. Including several smaller projects, Killington plans to allocate $200 million towards capital improvements in the next decade, bringing the resort's total committed expenditure to approximately $280 million under independent ownership.

The updated investment plans were announced at Killington Resort & Pico Mountain's annual Resort & Community Update on Thursday, October 15 at the K-1 Lodge. Also celebrated during the evening was M&T Bank, Killington & Pico's new Official Banking Partner, who debuted a sweepstakes featuring a grand prize of two (2) winter 2026/27 season passes to Killington Resort and a $1000 hospitality credit.
